Common Causes of Water Damage in Homes

A flood in your house can cause all sorts of damage to your belongings, electronics, and even the structural integrity of your home. We know the risks that water damage can bring with it, but it’s important to know what causes that damage in homes, so we can best prepare for it.
Common Causes of Water Damage
- Damaged Pipes: This is especially common in older homes where plumbing systems can become rusted and worn down over time. Watch out for cracks and bulges in the floors and ceilings to stay one step ahead of pipe failure.
- Kitchen Appliances: After being used for a long time, or used improperly, your white goods can start to flood the floors. Common culprits are overfilled fridges, clogged up dishwashers, and leaky washing machines.
- Natural Disasters: Maybe there has been a hurricane, a nearby dam has broken, or your home has been caught in a major snowstorm. There are a number of possibly harmful natural occurrences that mean floodproofing your home against these eventualities is always a smart move.
